Manslaughter is governed by Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 265 Section 13. It is a felony punishable by a maximum of 20 years in state prison, or 2.5 years in a house of corrections and a fine up to $1,000.
Involuntary manslaughter is defined as unintentional unlawful killing, either by wanton or reckless conduct, or by a battery when the assailant knew or should have known created a high degree of likelihood of causing substantial harm.
